Jagriti Yatra is a 15-day long, national train journey that will take you 8000 kilometers across the length and breadth of India, to understand and build the India of smaller towns and villages through enterprise.
In the past, only 3 students from MACE have participated in the Yatra: Arun Basil Lal (2010 passout), Hanna Poulose (2012 passout) and Jithin Emmanuel Jacob (2013 passout). This is mainly on account of lack of awareness on the same.
What can you expect from Jagriti Yatra?
You will meet role models, change-makers, leaders that started out on a journey just like you – and made a difference to thousands of lives. You will forge bonds with like-minded young leaders- your co-Yatris and complete strangers. They will become your closest friends and comrades for life. You will be exposed to role models who are building India through enterprise; through them you will find inspiration to undertake your own building journey.
450 youngsters, selected from thousands of applicants, many from smaller towns and villages, join the Yatra every year, with the goal of creating awareness and start a movement of ‘building India through enterprise’.
Yatri Selection Procedure
A rigorous process is used to select the brightest talent from a pool of applicants. The idea is to identify youth over 20 years of age, who have the potential to lead change.
Criteria – Abilities, not Marksheets
To select a Yatri, we do not look at exam-results; rather we consider abilities, motivations and values of the candidate. We consider the candidates’ understanding of India’s pressing problems, and the commitment and approach to solving these.
Diversity in Selection
While aiming for the best candidates from all over India, our focus remains on Middle India, and an even geographic spread within India. We also aim for equal representation of male-female candidates. Jagriti Yatra includes upto 40 exceptional international candidates whose global exposure adds to the richness of the Yatra.
The Yatri Composition
Yatris selected for the Yatra can either be a ‘Participant’ or a ‘Facilitator’.
Participants are young candidates in the age group of 20-27 who want to ‘be the change they want to see’ and have the potential to become entrepreneurs and change-makers.
Facilitators are experienced professionals, over 25 years of age, who are keen to join the movement for Enterprise-led development. They may be entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs or other professionals.
A facilitator plays the dual role of a mentor and coordinator during the Yatra and is assigned a cohort of 6-10 participants to:
- Support the participants to make the most of the Yatra by managing individual and collaborative learning
- Manage the cohort throughout the journey as per the Yatra Mantra (Code of Conduct)
- Act as a bridge between the participants and the organizing team
Responsibilities of the facilitators require them to be fluent in either English or Hindi.
The application consists of a series of essay questions designed to ascertain your suitability for the Yatra. It is a subjective evaluation of the raw entrepreneurial potential within a candidate by a selection panel of more than 30 experts spread across the globe. Random interviews and reference checks are also conducted to ascertain veracity of candidature.
Facilitators’ applications are further evaluated on their professional experience and ability to communicate, coordinate and manage youth. This is usually done through additional information in the form and an informal telephonic interview.
Once your application is selected, further financial details are required if you’re seeking sponsorship, to help us identify deserving candidates.
The Application Process
Both online and postal applications are accepted in English and Hindi.
There are no charges for applying for Jagriti Yatra. The relevant Yatra fees are applicable only if you’re selected.
This is the preferred method of applying for Jagriti Yatra. Start your application by registering on www.jagritiyatra.com/register. You can select your choice of language at the time of registration. Candidates applying in Hindi won’t need any special software or hardware to fill in the form. We have tried to make this as simple as typing in English.
Filling up the application form requires you to think carefully about your answers. For this, if you don’t have easy access to internet, you may note down the questions and work on your application offline. You can come back to type out or copy-paste your final answers in one go.
If you have prepared your answers, you can apply through online system in less than 15 minutes. Only in case you don’t have access to an internet connection that’s good enough to submit your application online, should you post your form to our office, in handwritten or typed format.
Though the online application process is preferred, we do accept applications sent by post.

Organising a 2-week train journey with supporting personnel and delivering a rich program with exceptional role models, calls for significant expenditure. The Yatra fee helps us cover these expenses in part.
There are no charges for applying for the Yatra. The relevant Yatra fees are applicable only if you’re selected.
The total cost of the Yatra is Rs. 51,000/- per person. Candidates with sound financial backgrounds are encouraged to pay the full amount.
Candidates who apply for sponsorships are carefully assessed and part or full sponsorships are granted to the most deserving.
We aim to support about 300 Yatris (66%) through either part or full sponsorships.
International Yatris need to pay an all inclusive 1300 USD or 800 GBP as Yatra fees and are responsible for their travel to Mumbai. International candidates are not eligible for Jagriti sponsorships.
Sponsorship opportunities are awarded on the basis of their financial need and merit. Online applicants, who are selected, will need to fill up the additional Sponsorship Form if they have opted for sponsorship in their application. Paper applicants should send this form along with their application form. All the candidates seeking sponsorship must submit supporting official income documents.
We also urge selected Yatris to look for alternative sources of sponsorship. We have a brief guide to help Yatris in approaching funding sources like trusts, colleges and corporate to raise their own fees.
