1) EXTENSION OF SEAPORT-AIRPORT ROAD ALIGNMENT AND DESIGN
Rapid increase in vehicle population,absence of adequate road network,need of improvement in the infrastructure of trade and industry,the resultant congestion and all indiscipline among road users are the factors contributing to the present scenario on many roads in urban areas.
This project deals with the alignment and design of the second phase of the road connecting the Cochin international airport and the Cochin seaport. The details and salient findings of the traffic studies conducted in the study area are presented. Based on the analysis of data the alignment and design of the road is done. Two bridges along the alignment are also designed.

2) EFFECT OF FLY ASH ON THE STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF SOIL
Sustainable development is a term that we come across in our daily life. It includes the utilization of resources in the most effective way without exploiting the environment and fulfilling the human needs. Fly ash is a waste material produced in thermal power plants. Every year tons and tons of fly ash is being produced. The conventional solution to this problem was landfilling. This is not practical since this is expensive and the land available is less. Thus handling of fly ash has become an immediate concern due to its huge accumulation and lack of dumping yards. Fly ash can be used in various civil engineering applications. Fly ash is geotechnical constructions like embankments,soil stabilization,geopolymers,sub grades etc are some of the promising solutions for sustainable development.
The project aims to study the effect of fly ash to improve the geotechnical properties of soil in and around kothamangalam keeping sustainable development in focus. Experiments were conducted on soil samples collected from three different sites with various percentage of fly ash. Introduction of fly ash into soil has improved the geotechnical properties of the soil and has also influenced its strength characteristics. Thus the material which was once considered as a curse to the environment and the society has turned out to be a boon.

3) WATER QUALITY ANALYSIS OF KUROORTHODU
water is vital for sustaining all forms of life on earth. In our country natural water gets polluted day by day. Polluted water is a major source of many of the illness of man. One of the major sources of water in kothamangalam town is kuroorthodu. People residing along the banks of kuroorthodu utilize this water for various purposes. Several outbreaks of communicable diseases were creating panic in the local community. Water quality assessment was performed from the upstream to the downstream sides of kuroorthodu.
Samples were collected from five sampling points. They were mainly 1)Thrikkariyur temple 2)Dharmagiri hospital 3)MB hospital 4)Opposite BEVCO 5)Near parathottukavu temple.
Eleven parameters of water mainly Ph Turbidity,Alkalinity,Acidity,Hardness,Chlorides,D.O,BOD,COD,MPN, and toxicity were analyzed. The analysis revealed that the upstream and downstream sides of kuroorthodu were of better quality compared to the stream flowing through kothamangalam town. This pointed out the need for the treatment plan to be setup in the town itself. So a treatment plan was deigned to meet the needs of town population. The plan comprises of a sedimentation tank,filtration unit and a disinfection unit

1) CONSERVATION OF WATER ALONG WITH ENERGY
The technical aspect of this project are rainwater harvesting collected from rooftop at MACE campus. First,required data are collected, i.e catchment areas and hydrological rainfall data. Water harvesting potential for the hostels and faculty apartments are calculated,and the rain water pond capacity which suitable design is being considered. Capacity of rain water pond is calculated with most appropriate method of estimation. Sanitary survey is done to find out the existing water consumption. Optimum location of rain water pond based on hydrological analysis is done in the campus. Modifications on the existing piping system are done to conserve energy along with water.
Thus the project consists of a package containing water pond 1,rainwater pond 2,and a modified layout system. Rainwater pond 1 suggested to be constructed near indoor stadium with its catchment areas(indoor stadium,main block,founders block).The advantage of rainwater pond 1 is that it could convey water to both hostels in gravity flow thus saving pumping cost. Rainwater pond 2 is suggested to be constructed near HS1 and HS2 with its catchment areas(HS1,HS2,Kennedy block).The advantage of construction of rainwater pond 2 is that it could supply drinking water to men’s hostel along with saving pumping cost. A modified layout of existing pumping system was also prepared. Rational method,Rapid deletion methods were used to calculate optimum dimensions of the rainwater ponds.
Break-even analysis is done to calculate the period of getting back the initial cost of the project. It was found that break-even can be achieved at the end of six years of implementation of the project. Thus the project is economically viable.
2) FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF LAMINATED COMPOSITE INTERFACE RING OF ROCKET LAUNCHER
Use of advanced materials in construction has become essential in space craft structures for achieving low mass while satisfying structural and functional requirements related to stiffness, strength, dimensional stability and agility. Recently, there have been attempts on the use of light-weight materials like composites for the construction of spacecraft structural elements. This project aims at performing linear static analysis of laminated composite interface ring of rocket launcher and to study the effect of ply orientation of laminates and location of stiffeners on deformation and stress pattern. The interface ring is a part of conical shell, having a top radius of 367 mm and bottom radius of 472 mm. The shell is made of laminated carbon fiber reinforced plastic composites with distribution of a total of 20 layers forming a total thickness of 2 mm. The load of 200 kN from the components above the ring acts as distributed compressive load on top of the ring, the bottom of which is fixed.
The analysis carried out on the structure lead to the best suited laminates, optimum ply orientation and the suitable location of stiffeners. Rectangular stiffeners are chosen for the present study. By varying the angular spacing between the stiffeners, the best suited location of stiffeners is found out.

3) WATER DIVERSION AND SUPPLY NETWORK
To provide drinking water to the residents in the remote tribal areas of vellaramkuttu,kothamangalam by diverting the water from the nearby water head available. The amenities like water,electricity,hygienic,sanitary facilities have still not reached the people living there. Comparing to the main stream, their standard of living is below average even now. Our main aim is to provide this water to the maximum number of residents as possible.
The objective of the project is to attain sustainable supply of safe drinking water, sustainable source, sustainability of operations, regularity and adequacy of supply and good quality of water. Our project proposes to solve the drinking water shortage for a community of 26 households. A weir, filter, storage tank and distribution system were suggested.
